Wonder was the first English book that I bought. I've read some books in English before, but this one was the first that I owned. And truly, I'm grateful for that.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
If you didn't read this book or if you didn't see a movie, you probably don't know what is this book about. So, this book is about Auggie Pulman and his life. Auggie is a boy with Treacher Collins syndrome, which made his life really hard. Auggie is homeschooled fifth-grader living in Manhattan with his parents and sister Olivia [Via]. He starts going to middle school for the first time. He met new friends in school, but also new enemies. The most kids in school think that Auggie is a freak and they don't want to be his friends. Except for one girl- Summer. She is her first friend. He also made some new friends like a boy Jack Will, Amos etc. Something that really surprised me is that R. J. Palacio [autor of the book] wrote Wonder after an incident where her son noticed a girl with a severe facial deformity and started to cry. Fearing he would react badly, Palacio attempted to remove her son from the situation so as not to upset the girl and her family but ended up worsening the situation.
The most important thing that this book gave me is the sentence which said Auggie's mom to him. ''You don't need your eyes to love, right?''
This really simple sentence, that probably most of the people didn't even recognize in their monologue, learned me that when you love someone, you don't really care about how that person looks like. And if you do, then it doesn't love. It's about owning that person and materialism. Love doesn't care about how you look like. For example, have you ever care about how your parents look like? Okay, maybe you have, but have it changed the way you love them? No! You love them because they took care of you when you were little, because they were with you when you needed them, because they gave you as much as they could, and all this just because they loved you, even when you were a little overweight, underweight, too tall or too small, if you have a big nose or too little eyes... they love you because of WHO YOU ARE, not because HOW YOU LOOK LIKE. And this is something that not everyone can understand because we live in a world where we think it's important to look good, take care of yourself and wearing pretty clothes, but at the end of the day, when you lay in the bed and think about your life, the only thing that really matters is who you are and what you do. Not how you look like. And I know that it's really nice when any pretty bou tell you something sweet. But isn't that feels so much better when someone makes something for you just because he likes you because of who you are?
Okay, let's move on to the next things that this book learned me. While I was reading, I underline some parts that something means for me, so let's continue with them.
So in the chapter where a doctor gave Auggie hearing aids, Aggie was thinking about the whole thing and his last thought sounds like this: ''Funny how sometimes you worry a lot about something and it turns out to be nothing.''
And this is such a true. I think everyone knows that feeling after finals or an important meeting or whatever situation that you were afraid of and when you already made it and you realize that it wasn't actually such a big deal. We're afraid of something as much, that it can ruin our lives and after a while, you don't even remember it because it wasn't actually so important.
If you read this book, you should remember MR. Browne's precepts. But if you didn't, you have no idea what I talk about. Well, MR Browne is Auggie's English teacher and he decided to give his students a little quote every month and he wanted for them to send him their own precepts while they'll be on summer break. Actually, one of my absolute favourite precepts is the first one for September: ''When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind. - Dr Waynr W. Dyer. ''
Actually, there are many quotes about kindness in this book because it was a really important topic for Auggie. So another one that I underline was when is Mr Tushman talking about the quote in book The Little White Bird [ ''Shall we make a new rule of life.. always to try to be kinder than is necessary?''] he end up saying:
''...but what I want you, my students, to take away from your middle-school experience,'' he continued, ''is that sure knowledge that in the future, you make for yourselves, anything is possible. If every single person in this room made it a rule that whatever you are, whatever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary- the world really would be a better place. And if you do this, if you just act little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday. may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God.''
He paused and shrugged.
''Or whatever politically correct spiritual representation of universal goodness you happen to believe in,'' he added quickly...
And at this point, I have nothing more to say, because Mr Tushman said it all.

Wonder, alebo v slovenskom ''divnopreklade'' Neobyčajná tvár (keby bolo na mne, preložila by som to skôr "Čudák" alebo ešte krajšie "Čudáčik") bola moja prvá anglická kniha, ktorú som si kúpila. Predtým som už čítala pár kníh v angličtine, ale táto bola prvá, ktorú som vlastnila. A som vďačná za to, že to bola práve táto.
O KNIHE:
Ak ste túto knihu nečítali, alebo ak ste nevideli film, pravdepodobne netušíte o čom kniha je. Takže len tak v skratke: Táto kniha je o Auggiem Pullmanovy a jeho živote. Auggie sa narodil s Treacher Collinsovým syndrómom, kvôli ktorému je jeho život vážne ťažký. Auggie je piatak, ktorého učí jeho mama doma. Žije v Manhattane s jeho rodičmi a so sestrou Oliviou (Viou). Po prvý krát ide do základnej školy. Stretne nových priateľov, ale aj nepriateľov. Väčšina detí v škole si o ňom myslí, že je "monštrum" a nechcú byť jeho priateľmi. Teda okrem Summer, jeho prvej priateľke. Nájde si však aj iných kamarátov, ako napríklad chlapcov Jacka Willa, či Amosa.
Vec, ktorá ma vážne prekvapila bolo, že autorka knihy R. J. Palacio napísala knihu po incidente s jej synom, ktorý si všimol dievčatko s takouto tvárovou vadou a začal plakať. Bála sa jeho reakcie, a tak syna rýchlo odtiahla aby nerozrušila dievčatko s jej rodičmi, ale iba tak celú situáciu zhoršila.
Najdôležitejšia vec, ktorú ma táto kniha naučila, bola veta, ktorú povedala Auggiemu jeho mama: ,,Nepotrebuješ oči aby si mohol milovať, že?"
Táto úplne jednoduchá veta, ktorú si pravdepodobne väčšina čitateľov v ich monológu ani nevšimla, ma naučila, že keď niekoho milujete, naozaj neriešite, ako ten človek vyzerá. A ak áno, potom to nie je láska ale materializmus a vlastnenie toho človeka. Láska sa nestará o výzor. Dám vám príklad: Zaujímalo vás niekedy ako vyzerajú vaši rodičia? Dobre možno áno, ale zmenilo to niečo ohľadom vašej lásky k nim? Nie! Pretože ich milujete za to, že sa o vás starali keď ste boli malý, boli tu s vami, keď ste ich potrebovali, dali vám všetko čo mohli, a to len pre to, že vás milovali, aj keď ste možno mali pár kíl navyše, či o pár kíl menej, či ste príliš nízky alebo príliš vysoký, či máte príliš veľký nos alebo príliš malé oči.. milujú vás za to KTO STE, a nie za to AKO VYZERÁTE. A toto je niečo, čo nie každý chápe, pretože žijeme vo svete, o ktorom si myslíme, že je dôležité vyzerať dobre, starať sa o seba a nosiť pekné oblečenie, ale na konci dňa, keď ležíte v posteli a rozmýšľate o svojom živote, jediné na čom vám záleží je kto ste a čo ste urobili. Nie ako vyzeráte. Chápe, že je to super keď vám pekný chalan povie niečo sladké. Ale nie je lepšie keď niekto pre vás spraví niečo, len preto, že vás má rád za to kto ste?
Dobre, presuňme sa ďalej, k ďalšej veci, ktorú ma táto kniha naučila. Počas môjho čítania som si podčiarkla pár vecí, ktoré sú pre mňa dôležité, tak pokračujme tým.
V kapitole, v ktorej dal doktor Auggiemu načúvací prístroj do uší, Auggie premýšľa nad celou vecou a jeho posledné myšlienky znejú takto: ,,Vtipné, ako si niekedy robíme obavy z niečoho, čo sa nakoniec zemní na nič."
A toto je taká veľká pravda. Myslím, že každý pozná ten pocit po písomke, či dôležitom stretnutí alebo po akejkoľvek situácií, ktorej ste sa obávali a potom si uvedomíte, že to vlastne nebolo až také hrozné. Bojíme sa niečoho až tak moc, že to dokáže zruinovať naše životy, no po čase si na to ani nespomenieme, pretože to vlastne nebolo až také dôležité.
Ak ste túto knihu čítali, pravdepodobne si pamätáte poučky Mr. Browna. Ale ak nie, pravdepodobne nemáte šajnu o čom hovorím. Takže, Mr Brown alebo teda pán Brown, bol Auggieho učiteľ angličtiny, ktorý sa rozhodol dávať svojím študentom každý mesiac malý citát, poučku, a chcel aby mu študenti počas letných prázdnin poslali ich vlastné poučky. V skutočnosti, jedna z mojich najobľúbenejších, je hneď prvá poučka zo septembra: ,,Keď dostanete šancu si vybrať medzi tým aby ste boli správny alebo milý, zvolte si milosť. -Dr Waynr W. Dyer. ''
V celej knihe je mnoho citátov ohľadom milosti, pretože to bola veľmi dôležitá časť Auggieho života. Takže jedna z ďalších, ktoré som si podčiarkla, bola keď Mr Tushman (riaditeľ školy) hovorí o knihe Malý biely vtáčik (,,Mohli by sme všetci zaviesť nove pravidlo života.. vždy sa správať milšie, než je nevyhnutné?"), ukončí rozprávanie asi nejak takto:
"... to čo od vás chcem, moji študenti, je aby ste si zo svojej skúsenosti so základnou školou," pokračuje, ,,odniesli vedenie, že v budúcnosti spravíte pre seba samých všetko, čo bude možné. Ak každý jeden človek v tejto miestnosti spraví toto pravidlom, potom čokoľvek čo ste, čokoľvek čo viete, ak sa budete snažiť správať trochu viac milšie, než je nevyhnutné- svet by bol naozaj lepším miestom. A ak toto budete robiť, ak iba budete milší, než je nevyhnutné, niekto, niekde, niekedy, môže vo vás, v každučkom jednom z vás, tvár Boha."
A v tomto momente už nemám čo viac dodať, pretože Mr. Tushman to povedal všetko.
